Shiatsu is a Japanese medical word, composed of two parts. The word (shi) means fingers and the word (tsu) means pressure. The intensity of the pressure varies depending on the patient, his condition and the disease from which he suffers. The diagnosis is made with the help of questioning and testing through touch and observation. A Japanese healing method that evolved from ancient Chinese medicine, and is based on its principles and aspects from more modern styles, developed by teachers such as Masunaga, Namikoshi, Endo, Ohashi and more.
In disease states there is a disruption in the flow of energy. The Shiatsu therapist recognizes the energy jamming and works to open this jamming and balance the body's forces with the help of various pressures and manipulations along the meridians (energy pathways in the body). Shiatsu makes extensive use of touch, breathing and movement techniques, to release the body from energetic blockages that cause physical problems and illness or emotion.

This type of treatment is based on the Chinese idea of energy that flows through energy pathways in the body. During the treatment sessions, the main focus is on relieving pain and helping the body to get rid of any toxins before they develop into diseases by regularly pressing on specific points in the body. Thus, the body improves its blood circulation efficiency. Shiatsu helps treat bone and muscle problems, as well as treats internal and psychological problems as well as menstruation.
